Take the Pledge

Headed to the beach? Part of the beach community? Safe journeys on PCH start with you. This pledge is your commitment to creating a strong road safety culture that makes everyone who lives, visits, works or plays along PCH safer. Slower roads are safer roads.

All of us want safer roads. Slower speeds save lives. The collective safety of everyone on PCH depends on the individual choices we all make. By taking this pledge, you are joining a movement to create a culture of safety on PCH.

As an individual driver, I pledge to give locals a “brake,” be the slower driver, and support “Go Safely PCH.” I pledge to do my part to make PCH safer and friendlier for all through the following actions:

The Pledge

  • I will drive within the posted speed limit or slower in high bicycle and pedestrian traffic areas and in highway work zones.
  • I will plan to leave early enough so I don’t have to rush.
  • I will not give in to the impatience of others and drive above the speed limit.
  • I will treat people who are walking or riding a bike with respect and share the road safely with them.
  • I will not text or use any other handheld devices when driving. If the call is urgent, I will stop and park at a safe location to make a call or send a text message.
  • I recognize the severe risks of speeding to other people on and around PCH, as well as the legal consequences.
  • I recognize that being a safe driver starts with me, and I commit to creating a strong road safety culture by practicing safe driving habits.
